Does extra-marital sexual activity increase the chance of having a heart attack?
A study by the University of Florence shows that death from a heart attack during sex is more frequent when the husband has extramarital sex in a new environment, compared with sex in a familiar environment with a steady partner.
Specifically, researchers found that extramarital sex was associated with a greater likelihood of a major cardiac event, including fatal myocardial infarction. Moreover, the risk of heart attacks was lower when the man had sex with his stable partner at home.
These data are consistent with a recent study on 5,559 deaths that had occurred during sexual intercourse, which found that 75% of those who died were during extra-marital sexual intercourse.
What is the link between extra-marital sex and heart attack?
Existing research data are insufficient to explain the relationship between the two. However, possible explanations are that:
- a) Usually on extra-marital sex men choose younger mates, which creates the extreme stress.
- b) heavy alcohol and food consumption precedes before sexual activity.
- c) It is likely that several factors related to the context of non-marital contacts, eg secrecy, intensity of the moment, etc., significantly increase blood pressure and pulse, resulting in increased oxygen demand.
- d) Intense guilt feelings may cause great stress.
This subject shows once again that the disharmony between the mind and the body can have very negative consequences.
